State of Oregon Training Summit History
 
The State of Oregon Training Summit began in 2006 as a way to connect the state training community and provide professional development to trainers.

 

Statewide Training and Development, a part of the Department of Administrative Services, is the presenting agency of the State of Oregon Training Summit.  The planning and organization of the Summit is done by a steering committee made up of volunteers from a variety of agencies.

The Inaguaral Summit
 
The 2006 Summit was held at the Oregon State Fairgrounds on May 3, 2006.
 
For this first Summit, the steering committee had only 4 months to put together the event.  During initial planning phases there were questions to how well an event like this would be recieved by state trainers; to the delight of the steering committee registration filled in less then two weeks and additional seat were added to help meet the demand.
 
The Summit featured Arty Troast as the keynote speaker.  She spoke on her experiences as a trainer and light plane pilot.  She shared how her experiences as  pilot could be transferred into the classroom.
 
The Summit also featured concurrent workshops, networking, and statewide training updates.
 
 2007 Training Summit
Oregon's Training Community: Vital. Valuable. Visionary.
 
The 2007 Summit was held May 2, 2007 at the Chemeketa Eola Viticulture Center in the hills of west Salem.  This larger facility allowed more state trainers to attend an expanded program.
 
Internationally known Migual Valenciano presented the keynote presentation on cultural competency in the classroom.
 
Workshops were presented by regioanl and national presenters on topics ranging from emotional intelligence to generational diversity to powerpoint.
